‘Paranormal Activity’ Reveals Full Cast for Broadway Engagement

The Broadway production of “Paranormal Activity” has announced its full cast ahead of performances at the August Wilson Theatre.

The horror play will begin previews on August 14, with an official opening night scheduled for September 15. The production is set for a 20-week limited engagement on Broadway.

Cher Álvarez will star as Lou, alongside Travis A. Knight as James, Shannon Cochran as Carolanne, and Andrea Syglowski as Etheline Cotgrave. The company also includes understudies Caron Buinis, Caroline Hendricks, and Michael Holding.

Álvarez, Knight, Cochran, Buinis, Hendricks, and Holding are returning after appearing in the show’s pre-Broadway North American engagements. Syglowski joins the Broadway company as the only principal cast member not involved in those earlier productions.

Before arriving in New York, the full Broadway company will perform at Boston’s Emerson Colonial Theatre from July 11 through July 30.

Directed by Felix Barrett and written by Levi Holloway, “Paranormal Activity” is based on the 2007 horror film of the same name. The story follows Katie and Micah, a couple who move into a suburban home and begin experiencing unexplained events. Believing a supernatural presence may be responsible, they install a camera in their bedroom in an effort to document the activity, leading to increasingly disturbing discoveries.

The stage adaptation has previously played sold-out engagements in London and Los Angeles.

The production’s creative team includes scenic and costume designer Fly Davis, illusion designer Chris Fisher, lighting designer Anna Watson, sound designer Gareth Fry, and video and projections designer Luke Halls. General management is being handled by Samuel Dallas of Envoy Theatricals.

The Broadway production has also added Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse and a producer of the original “Paranormal Activity” film franchise, to its producing team.

The show is being produced in association with Paramount Pictures, Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Center Theatre Group, Shakespeare Theatre Company, and American Conservatory Theater. The stage production was originally produced at Leeds Playhouse.

Additional producers include Simon Friend, Hanna Osmolska, Ken Davenport, Gavin Kalin Productions, Seaview, Crooked Letter, Blumhouse, John Gore Organization, Michael Ngo and David Thomas Tao, Olympus Theatricals and FineWomen Productions, Amplify Pictures, Robina Riccitiello, and Lone Pine Theatricals. Seaview serves as executive producer.
